MEET CARMEN V. BROWN, MD F.A.C.O.G., F.R.A.N.Z.C.O.G.

Carmen Brown is a senior consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology with over 15 years of clinical experience. She is also author, blogger, managing director and founder of ExpatMD-a full service consulting service dedicated to helping American physicians achieve their dream of living and working in Australia and New Zealand.

Dr. Brown obtained her degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Tulane University in New Orleans. She went on to medical school at Morehouse School of Medicine followed by residency training in OB/GYN at Christus St Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Houston, Texas. She became board certified with the American College of Obstetrician/Gynecologists in 2006.

Dr. Brown worked in private practice for several years in Georgia, Arizona and Hawaii. She moved to academic faculty at St. Joseph Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix where she won the CREOG Faculty Teaching award her first year on faculty.

In 2010, Dr. Brown took a sabbatical and went on a six month around-the-world trip visiting 25 countries during that time. With a new found excitement for travel, Dr. Brown decided to find a way to combine her two loves--medicine and travel. She and her husband accepted a one year locum position in New Zealand on the South Island and her experience in New Zealand solidified her desire to live overseas. After a brief return to the USA, Dr. Brown and her family accepted a permanent position back on the South Island of New Zealand and in 2013, they started their expat life as a family in earnest. During her time in New Zealand, Dr. Brown became a full fellow of the Royal Australia/New Zealand College of Obstetricians/Gynaecologists and took up teaching again as Senior Clinical Lecturer for University of Otago and Prevocational Supervisor for rotating interns.
